Logo Design Contest winner
John Pipan is the winner of the 2006 BOOM Logo Design Contest. John is a senior in the College of
Engineering, studying the Science of Earth Systems. He has been researching Paleoecology and Paleoclimatology
of the Ithaca area for nearly a year and hopes to be published soon. John has been dabbling in the creation
of computer graphics since he was 15 years old. He is currently trying to figure out what the future
holds after graduation.
The logo John created is particularly appropriate as it incorporates images from the Duffield atrium into the design (the venue for BOOM). In addition, the faint mathematical formulas displayed on the image are significant. One formula is used to produce the fractal containing the yellow/white design, and the other represents magnetism.
Professor Hod Lipson, BOOM faculty advisor and Professor in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering/Computing and Information Science, presents John with 1st prize for his creative and inspirational BOOM logo design: a 60 GB iPod.
