Cornell RoboCup is a team of Cornell students that design an autonomous team of robots to play a small version of soccer. Since the team first entered the RoboCup Small-Sized League in 1999, Big Red has won the international championship four times. Most recently, Cornell won the championship in July 2003 in Padua, Italy. The team takes pride in a using systems engineering approach to the project. Contributions from graduate and undergraduate students in computer science, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering are all equally important to the team's success.

The international RoboCup competition entails the construction of fully autonomous, fast-moving robots, which work together as a team to compete against similar teams of robots in a robotic soccer match. The soccer matches are played by teams composed of five robots. Similar to the real game of soccer, the objective is to score more goals than the opponent, subject to well-defined rules and regulations. Read more about RoboCup.
